The bells in the church tower of Schloss Hollengg structure daily life at the castle: they ring every quarter hour, establishing a steady rhythm that marks the passage of time through repetition and ritual. Their sound echoes through the courtyard and travels over and beyond the medieval walls, rendering time and place perceptible.

Ildar Wafin conceived the silver sculpture during his residency at Schloss Hollenegg as an homage to the bells. It is both a decorative centrepiece and a sound-producing instrument. It features three bells of different sizes and was produced in collaboration with the historical Viennese silversmith Vaugoin, in 925 sterling silver, using the lost-wax casting process. Its sinuous shape was inspired by the centuries-old Canadian vine that climbs the courtyard walls of Schloss Hollenegg. Unlike the bells, the vine is silent, yet, like the bells, it registers and embodies the passage of time.
